Robber’s Cave

Locally known as Guchu Paani, it is a cave leading to a small hidden waterfall. It is a 600 m long cave in the midst of which there is a river flowing. This river cave is believed to be the residence of Lord Shiva. Its characteristic is that the water of the river flows out from the center of the cave.

During the British era, the robbers used to use it as a hideout. Hence, the name Robber’s Cave.  People enjoy the natural rift with their feet in the water which ultimately leads to the waterfall. It certainly guarantees a feeling of belongingness as Mother Nature drives you back, causing you to reverberate with its mesmerizing beauty.

Tapkeshawar Temple-a must visit temple in dehradun tourist places

Tapkeshwar is a famous holy temple of Lord Shiva, located at the banks of River Asan. Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple has located 6.5 km from Dehradun city. It is popular to have the oldest Shivling in the Tapkeshwar caves. The water droplets continuously drop from the cave ceiling on the Shivling which is why it is named Tapkeshwar. This happens throughout the year.

Cool sulfur water springs are available here for pilgrims to take a dip in before entering the main temple. Tapkeshwar Temple is one of the most visited temples in the region. Although simple and charming in appearance, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Dehradun.

This place has its mythological importance as it is believed to be the cave of Guru of Pandavas and Kauravas, Guru Dronacharya. The continuous holy chants and ringing of bells make the whole aura extremely devotional.

Shikhar Falls-a natural wonder in dehradun tourist places

Another famous picnic spot in Dehradun, Shikhar falls is one of the most relaxed natural places where one can hike and explore nature. Shikhar Falls is beautifully hidden in the lap of nature in the Kairwaan village. It is approximately 14 km from the city center. One can savor a beautiful view of the sun-kissed Himalayas.

A short 1 km hike on the jagged terrains, crossing the shallow pool will guide you to the waterfall located uphill. There are hawker shops and also Maggi points on the way to Shikhar Fall. Forest Research Institute

This is one of the places that Bollywood loves. It is the place where a lot of movies and web series like Krishna Cottage, Student of the Year 2, etc was shot. Forest Research Institute or FRI is a heritage building and the complex of the university is as huge as 2000 acres. It is famous for its Greco-Roman architecture, botanical garden, and museums. The Forest Research Institute in Dehradun is an educational and tourist spot set amidst the lush green mountains of the lesser Siwalik mountain range.

The ambiance here oozes intricate beauty and natural diversity. This world-class research institute is also the oldest research institute in the country. The site is dedicated to the study of the plants, animals, climate, and topography of the Himalayan forests. Sahastradhara Natural Springs

Also known as ‘The Thousandfold Springs’, this place is located 18 km away from the city center.  Sahastradhara is known for its natural springs and scenic natural views. The place is extremely beautiful. It includes several small waterfalls and caves.

The water flows between the limestone stalactites which are, in turn, converted into small springs where people enjoy the freezing water of the mountains. It also offers a ropeway towards a small park where there are several activities and games for children. There are several water-based activities and rides too. Maldevta

Maldevta is located near Raipur, which is around 18 km from Dehradun. It is a wide area located along with River Song. It has several hidden hikes and lesser-known waterfalls in its store. This lovely location exudes ethereal natural beauty, with a stunning view of the Himalayas and the river flowing by. Diverse plants and fauna that draw everyone’s attention surround this area. Buddha Temple

It is the Tibetan monastery known as Mindrolling Monastery. It was built in the later years of the 20th century by the revered Buddhist religious head Kochen Rinpoche. This monastery is located in the Clement Town of Dehradun. It is India’s largest Buddhist temple complex and has trained monks for over 300 years. A masterpiece of multi-section architecture, the monastery is a visual wonder. It also has the tallest stupa in Asia.

The Buddha Temple environment is a place for mental serenity and is home to numerous Buddhist monks. It is built in Japanese architecture. The interior of the temple is only open to the public on Sundays. Visitors can reach the observation platform by climbing the steps through the numerous floors with their intricate decorations. One may get a panoramic view of Dehradun after reaching the top of the building. The view from the top is simply mesmerizing.

Shiv Mandir, Mussoorie Road

One of the most important religious places in Dehradun is the Shiv Mandir on Mussoorie Road. Also known as Shri Prakasheshwar Mahadev Mandir, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. It is nestled amidst the lush green valleys of Dehradun. The temple is visited not only by believers from nearby cities but also from all over the country. The main attraction of the temple is the Sphatik Shivlinga.

Visitors cherish and enjoy the free Bhandara that is held every day where devotees have distributed prasad. They also provide tea as a Prasad in the temple. Most people who visit Mussoorie, visit this temple as it is on the way to Mussoorie road. Here the devotees cannot offer any donations to God. Malsi Deer Park- experience wildlife in dehradun tourist places.

Renamed as Dehradun Zoo, Malsi Deer Park is one of the top attractions for wildlife lovers after Rajaji National Park in Dehradun. Located 10 km from Dehradun on Mussoorie Road, this zoological Mini Park or garden has now become a famous family day out/picnic spot in Dehradun.

It is flooded with visitors on the weekends. The park features a rocky and forested terrain that is home to fauna such as deer, two-horned deer, monkeys, and Nilgai. Various migratory birds also stop here, making it a great spot for bird watching.

Mussoorie

It is located around 35 km from Dehradun. The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. Mussoorie is known as the Queen of the Hills and is an extremely beautiful hill station. With the Shivalik Range of the Himalayas and the Doon Valley as a backdrop, Mussoorie rises at an altitude of 7000 feet above sea level. With a cool and pleasant climate all year round, Mussoorie was once the summer capital of Britain.
