“Never measure the height of a mountain until you reach the Top. Then you will see how low it was.” -Dag Hammarskjöld
Offbeat places in Himachal pradesh travel blog
Himachal is famous for Manali, Kullu and many common tourist attractions, but in this article will walk you through Waichin Valley, Tosh and Kutla some of the unexplored and hidden beauty for a peaceful and adventurous visit to the mountains.
Waichin Valley – The Magic Valley This is my ultimate loved destination in Himachal.
Waichin is a remote village approximately 4 km trek from Malana and is very less populated and to reach this place is a bit difficult but not impossible if you have that “Adventure Ant” in you. You would not find any proper roads for cars or bikes, this destination is explored by foot.
“The best view comes after the hardest climb.”
Waichin, the isolated village is popular for its beauty (it’s covered with mountains from all sides) from lush green mountains to snow-covered peaks and a warm cosy night below the stars.
I had travelled to this unknown destination in August 2018, and this village took my heart away. If you are looking for some quiet life away from the hustle puzzle urban life I would advise you all to visit this place.
How to reach
From Delhi or Chandigarh, you can take a Volvo and reach Bhuntar, Himachal from where you can book a local taxi or car which you can book till Malana and trek from here to waichin valley which is approximately 4 Kms, this route will walk you through some of the most beautiful scenery of nature or the second way is to reach the Malana Dam and start the trek from here.
No proper constructions of roads are here, so the best way to reach the hilltop is on foot trekking through small trails made by locals.
Kindly note this is a very uncommon destination so you need to trek a challenging path to reach the top of the hill which is the ultimate love and you can only feel once you reach there.
Trust us if you visit this place it is very difficult to return, a part of you will always stay there – forever from wherever you come to visit here. That is the main reason I am writing about this place, after travelling almost the entire Himachal.
Where to Stay
You can find some local homes converted to the homestay or guest house for people visiting this place, but the most common way to stay here is in tents, you can either bring your own and do camping or get rented. When I visited this place I stayed for 2 nights in a tent and 3 nights at Dragon Guesthouse. During my stay in 2018, I saw much new construction of guest houses so you need not worry about the stay.
The best time to visit Waichin is from August till mid-November, this place is cold throughout the year During monsoon light snow is very common, so be well prepared before you reach this place.
Key Pointers to keep in mind while visiting offbeat places in himachal pradesh.
This place is very high and a remote village in Kullu district of Himachal the food at the tents or stays here are very much costly (as the same in almost all hill stations) and selective, so keep some stock with you.
Maggi, Tea and Hot Chocolate are very common and must to try.
This place does not have proper electricity, so long power cuts after sunset is common. You will find solar panels. So keep an extra charger, power backup and torch with you.
You will find help and support from locals but they have a strict boundary, so kindly maintain that distance. They have a really simple lifestyle.
A trip to Waichin is low to your pocket, but fun and love unlimited.
Kasol – Manikaran – Tosh – Kutla in Parvati Valley- paradise among Offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh.
This is one of the best and most beautiful Himalayan trails to visit in 2020. Yes, this place is famous for many reasons like the hippie crowd, Israeli food, hot springs in Manikaran sahib gurudwara to the beautiful valley of tosh.
How to reach
From Bhuntar, can hire a local taxi or cab, as the roads are very narrow and big vehicles are restricted. You can even avail self-driven bikes on rent and enjoy the view while you drive till Kasol. The best way to travel to all these places is to hire a local taxi person or rent a bike if you are low at budget.
